GROWMORE

GrowMore is an urban gardening modular design that enhances our awareness on local production and offering a ‘pause’-architecture in the high paced urban scenery, for people to produce their food locally.
Growmore is representing an ideology that emphasizes sharing culture, local production and maker-movement which is starting to challenge the way we think about products, design and architecture.

GrowMore is marking this focus and by sharing the drawings of the design open source, we want to participate in, and enhance the local production-  and maker-movement. The elements in the modular system are flexible as they can be assembled in many different ways, which makes it possible to create your own personal structure that fits perfectly into the specific context.

In the high-paced city scene GrowMore is offering an ‘oasis’ or ‘pause’-architecture that should be used as human rechargers. When the structures are placed around in the urban-scenery, as small nests, they not only provides a platform for social meetings and growth of vegetation, but also acts as retreats to remind us to take a break and connect with nature.

THE MODULAR SYSTEM

GrowMore is an urban farm modular system that consist of only 6 elements that provides the opportunity to build endless shapes for an urban farm in any given context.
We introduce a construction principle, challenging the easiness of production, and flexibility of the construction while minimizing the waste of materials to a minimum.

The building system is characterized by it’s rounded rectangular slats, giving the structure a transparency concerning the way the plants are growing, the applied watering system and how this farm lab is working. The construction elements consist of vertical and horizontal elements connected in a pivotal joint. The pivotal joint allows all the elements to rotate; hereby making it possible to create endless 3D shaped designs from the same building elements.

To assemble the structures, use standard M8 bolt, lock nuts and washers. The system is designed and developed based on CNC production. Thus, it is possible to produce the elements anywhere in the world - in any CNC-suitable material.

3 EXHIBITION DESIGNS

The 3 installations are designed to represent 3 different experiences in nature.
- The Tree invokes the feeling of underneath a big tree.
- The Clearing invokes the feeling of finding a shady opening that embraces the visitor.
- The Forest invokes the feeling of walking through a bushy and narrow path in a forest.

EXHIBITION THEME: MAKING

After the Biennale the drawings will be published as an open source edition of the components of GrowMore, because we want to participate in, and enhance the shared economy- and local production movement. The modular building components will be available for everyone to download – CNC mill the components - and easy to assemble, and creates the possibility freestyle and design your own personal structure that fits perfectly into the specific context.
